We all have to do it at least once to know what it "feels" like to run out of gas. Then you know the "feeling" and can switch to reserve without pulling over. I remeber practicing reaching down for the pepcock so I could turn it the right way if I ever needed to. Doing 65 mph and switching over to reserve takes practice.
